How I automate bug reports to deployment using CodeBake and OpenClaw, closing the loop with players automatically.

I run a multiplayer game called The Echo (https://echothegame.com). It's built in Elixir/Phoenix, it has a growing player base, and I'm the only developer. That last part matters, because when a player finds a bug, there's no team to triage it, no QA department to reproduce it, no project manager to slot it into next sprint. There's me.
For a while, I handled bug reports the way most solo devs do — a mix of Slack messages, emails, and a mental list I'd forget by Tuesday. Players would report something, I'd say "thanks, I'll look into it," and then it would disappear into the fog of whatever I was working on that day. Occasionally someone would ask "hey, did you ever fix that thing where zombies clip through the walls?" and I'd realize I had no idea.
That changed when I started using CodeBake (https://codebake.ai) as mission control for Echo, with OpenClaw (https://openclaw.ai) handling the actual code work. The entire pipeline — from a player noticing a problem to every player in the game hearing about the fix — runs through CodeBake. I barely touch it.
And I mean that literally. PRs merge automatically. Deployment happens when CI/CD passes. I mark tasks as resolved as a cleanup step, not a bottleneck. The pipeline runs whether I'm at my desk or not.
Here's how it works.
CodeBake has a feature called the public issue-reporting page. Every project gets one. It's a URL I can hand to my players, and they can submit bug reports directly — structured fields, context, the whole thing. No GitHub account required. No Slack channel to scroll through. Just a clean form that creates a real task in my Echo project on CodeBake.
The page also scans for duplicates automatically. When a player starts describing their issue, CodeBake surfaces existing reports that match. If someone's already reported it, they upvote the existing issue to indicate they have the same problem — and they'll be notified when it's resolved, same as the original reporter. That alone cuts down on noise dramatically while making sure nobody falls through the cracks.
I dropped the link in our game's help menu and told players "if something's broken, report it here." That was it. Reports started coming in with actual useful information instead of "the game is weird."
Every morning at 8am MST, OpenClaw connects to CodeBake through its built-in MCP server and scans for new tasks. It reads the bug report and assesses severity. Critical stuff — crashes, data loss, exploits — gets flagged immediately. Everything else gets prioritized and queued.
This is where CodeBake's MCP-first design pays off. OpenClaw isn't scraping a web interface or parsing emails. It's making structured calls to read tasks, update statuses, and add comments — the same way any MCP-compatible agent would. The integration took maybe an hour to set up.
Before OpenClaw touches any code, I review the incoming tasks. This is the one manual step in the pipeline, and it's intentional. Players have access to the public reporting page, which means someone could submit a "bug report" that's really a request to give their faction a damage boost or change core game mechanics. A quick scan of the new tasks each morning lets me catch anything that shouldn't be acted on. Once I've signed off, OpenClaw goes to work.
Once OpenClaw has a bug in its sights, it analyzes the codebase, identifies the root cause, and updates the CodeBake task with its diagnosis. From there it writes a fix, runs tests, and submits a PR. If CI/CD passes, it merges and deploys automatically. Once the fix is complete, OpenClaw updates the task again with what it did to resolve the issue. If I check the board at any point during the day, I can see the full story — what was wrong, what changed, and why.
Once a fix is deployed, I mark the task as resolved in CodeBake as part of my regular cleanup. When that happens, two things fire automatically.
First, CodeBake notifies the player who submitted the report — along with every player who upvoted it. They get a notification that their bug was addressed. No manual follow-up, no "hey, just wanted to let you know" message I have to remember to send. The system handles it.
Second — and this is my favorite part — OpenClaw has its own admin login to the game. It queries CodeBake for recently resolved bugs, generates an in-game announcement in Echo's narrative voice, and posts it directly. It also checks against previous announcements to avoid duplicates. Players online see what changed, framed as part of the world they're playing in.
A bug fix becomes a story beat. The game feels alive, and players feel like the world is being actively maintained — because it is.
The entire loop runs through CodeBake. Players enter through the public reporting page. I work on the project board. OpenClaw operates through the MCP server. Players check status on the public page. And when something's resolved, CodeBake closes the loop with a notification.
CodeBake isn't just where I track work. It's the surface area for my entire relationship with my player base. Input, orchestration, visibility, and closure — one tool, every touchpoint.
Could I cobble this together with GitHub Issues and a bunch of webhooks and a custom notification system? Probably. But that's a project in itself, and I'd rather spend that time building game features. CodeBake already has the public page, the MCP server, the notification system, and the structured task management. I just had to connect the pieces.
Recently, a player reported that biting another player more than twice in a row was triggering a spamming penalty (https://app.codebake.ai/mediastable-956/echo-150/ECHO-93) — their chat was getting muted for doing something the game explicitly lets them do. The report came in through the public page on a Friday afternoon. I reviewed it that evening, confirmed it was legit, and let OpenClaw loose. By Saturday morning, it had dug into the codebase and posted its diagnosis to the task: the bite command's combat feedback was using the wrong message type, one that ran through spam detection. Similar feedback messages ("You bite X for Y damage!") were getting flagged as repeat spam. OpenClaw identified the one-line fix — swap `send_player_message` for `send_action_message` in the bite flow — submitted a PR, tests passed, and it merged and deployed automatically. The task got updated with what changed, and the player who reported it got notified. The whole thing was resolved within 24 hours — over a weekend. I didn't write a line of code.
The best part? OpenClaw's diagnosis also flagged that the `/attack` command might have the same issue — context I would've missed if I'd just fixed the bite bug and moved on.
"Building in public" usually means tweeting your revenue numbers or posting screenshots of your commit graph. That's visibility. Your audience watches. You perform. It's a one-way street.
What I've built with CodeBake is different. My players don't just watch — they participate. They report bugs through the public page. They upvote issues to signal priority. They get notified when their report is resolved. They see the fix announced in-game, in the voice of the world they play in. They're not spectators of my development process — they're part of it.
That's not building in public. It's building *with* the public.
And the key thing is, none of this requires extra effort from me. I didn't build a community portal or a custom status page or a newsletter pipeline.
